Course: 3D Quilt by Marina Landi

*** Course content subtitled in English, Spanish and Italian ***

In 2013 at the Houston International Festival, I saw a work that caught my attention; it was a three-dimensional quilt with 3 photos, one of Ophrah, one of Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and the third of Jackie Kennedy, and depending on the angle you looked at, you could see an image of one of them. The work was by an American named Flora Joy.

For a long time, I was trying to imagine how she had done that job. Almost 6 years later, researching tissue manipulation techniques, I found a technique called Tucks which, with the help of digital printing and Photoshop, allows us to transform any photograph into a three-dimensional quilt.

It's a quick technique that only requires mastery of a sewing machine. And that will allow anyone without artistic knowledge to create a three-dimensional quilt with the images they like, from pictures of loved ones to famous landscapes or paintings.

And this was my option for this course: I selected works by Modigliani, Monet, and Van Gogh.
