Basics of Osun

All classes with Egbe Imodoye Orisa are open exclusively to students who have applied and registered at egbeimodoyeorisa.net/form. This course is tailored for both Ogberi (non-initiates) and Olorisa (initiated individuals).

Ọṣun represents the flowing energy of water, the origin (Orisun) of all life. In Yoruba belief, water sustains birth, prosperity, trade, and connections between communities—Ọṣun embodies all these, linking spiritual power to everyday life and the cycles of fertility, growth, and abundance.

Students will explore the diverse “roads” or manifestations of Ọṣun, each rooted in the different towns and stories where her presence was revealed:

Osun Iponda: Fierce warrior, keeper of the flaming sword

Ibusanyin: Master of herbs and healing, wife of Orisha Osanyin

Osun Iroko & Logunede: Mastery of spirits, connection to serpent and rainbow and more, including Osun’s roles as trader, queen, and spiritual adviser.

Oriki: Learn traditional praise-chants that awaken the energy (ase) of the Orisha, aligning hearts and minds to receive blessings and wisdom.

Ritual Purification: Understand why purity—of body, mind, and spirit—is vital before ritual, and the methods favored by Ọṣun devotees.

Body Postures: Discover hand and body positions (such as iforibale and idobale) that humble, empower, and transmit spiritual energy.

Sacred Numbers: Explore the mystical significance of 3 and 5, numbers intimately tied to Ọṣun across various Yoruba spiritual systems.

Gain practical knowledge about what offerings are appropriate and meaningful to Ọṣun (water, kola, honey, white cloth, and more) and the essential healing herbs and songs that form part of her veneration.
