THE CONE BEAM GUY BIO
As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial radiologist, Dr. Bruno Azevedo exemplifies excellence. As the son of a pioneer in the Oral and Maxillofacial radiology specialty in Latin America, Bruno grew up working in his family’s dental imaging lab, spending his childhood observing and honing his clinical skills.
As one of the pioneers in the clinical use of 3D imaging in dentistry, he experienced firsthand the positive transformation of CBCT scans in his imaging practice. He invested in his first CBCT scanner in 2003, when he developed his first free CBCT viewer. This revolutionary development afforded him the opportunity to further his studies at the prestigious Oral Radiology Department at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio, under Dr. Robert Langlais’ mentorship. After his residency, he was invited to be one of the founding faculty members of the Western University of Health Sciences, College of Dental Medicine in Pomona, California.
Forging a brand-new integrated dental curriculum gave him a singular vision on how to apply advanced imaging into the specialties of dentistry. His teaching methodology was then adopted by many other dental schools, including the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, where he was responsible for implementing a robust 3D imaging course to all residency programs. Dr. Azevedo has distilled 17 years of clinical practice and over a decade of developing 3D imaging curriculums into his simple and highly effective teaching methodology to CBCT, “The Cone Beam Imaging Courses.” His systematic approach to imaging encompasses four pillars of imaging: Acquisition, Data Correction, Data Navigation, and Data Interpretation. Dr. Azevedo is a passionate, tireless teacher and has given his courses in over 20 countries to thousands of practitioners.
