Sports in Sri Lanka encompass a wide range of activities, reflecting the island nation's

hearts of Sri Lankans and is the most popular sport in the country. The Sri Lanka
national cricket team has achieved significant success on the international stage,
winning the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1996 and reaching the finals on multiple
occasions.
Aside from cricket, Sri Lanka also excels in sports like athletics, rugby, volleyball, and
basketball. Athletics has produced several notable athletes, with Susanthika
Jayasinghe being the most prominent, winning a silver medal in the 200m at the 2000
Sydney Olympics.
