Since 1945, several nations have been developing nuclear programs to protect and attack other nations, arms race. These weapons today have the capacity to completely destroy life on earth.

But if we are so capable of developing technologies of mass destruction and destruction of our planet, then why can't we be able to also develop technologies that prevent these threats.
