Basic Gong Course
Gong meditation is a unique type of sound practice that involves using the therapeutic sounds and vibrations of a gong for healing. The goal of gong meditation is usually a therapeutic effect, but the deeper goal of sound exposure is awareness and an open mind to understanding oneself at a given moment in time.
History of Gong Meditation.
Sound healing is one of the oldest and most natural forms of healing known to man. For many centuries in all countries and traditions, harmonious sounding (singing, tambourine sounds, drumming, etc.) has been used as a way to calm emotions. In some Eastern cultures, the understanding of the healing properties of sound was so deep that the gong of meditation was credited with a healing effect on the body at the cellular level. Gong meditation is definitely not just a ritual that evokes feelings of emotional well-being.
The first mention of gongs dates back to the Bronze Age, around 3500 BC. e. and has been found in Mesopotamia, Burma, China, Java. Rumor has it that the ancient sacred gongs included pieces of meteorites that fell from the sky, "sweeping away the darkness, bringing light." In ancient times, the gong was used in the process of meditation, healing, initiation, communication, and ceremonies, including exorcism.
The base of the gong is a flat metal disk made of silver, nickel or an alloy of 60% copper, 20% nickel and 20% zinc. Be sure to exclude cracks, chips, and irregularities in casting. Such flaws made the gong unsuitable for meditation.
