Ideally, you would stay for six months and then travel freely once you have your cédula. However, you can also make two short trips: one week to apply for residency, followed three months later by another week to apply for your identity card.

You must spend one day a year here and, for tax residency, submit online tax returns, even if they are zero returns. You can do this yourself online.
