Rótgetir - Journey to Alfheim

English

RÓTGETIR, THE SHADOW KEEPERS

Once responsible for the honor of cleansing the roots of Yggdrasil from curses, diseases, and forbidden magic, the dark elves faction had the vital role of maintaining the cycle of life—not just the cycle of Ragnarök. Chosen by Baldr himself, they learned to draw power from the moon and move cunningly through the night. Their connection to lunar magic granted them power and speed, though it came at the cost of sensitivity to light. In time, their skin became marked with the deep purple stains of the corrupted sap they handled daily, a sign of their lifelong service.

Led by master enchanters, the Rótgetir operated in independent groups scattered across Yggdrasil’s roots, reporting to a central authority yet valuing their autonomy, until everything changed with the death of Baldr. The catastrophe of Ragnarök shattered their isolation, revealing the true consequences of keeping Yggdrasil safe.

Once this new reality settled in, their grief turned to resolve, and they secretly retreated underground, determined to change fate itself. Through forbidden magic, they brought Baldr back, and with him, the will to end the cycle of death and rebirth entirely. The Tyrbrandr despised their actions, deepening the divide and turning former allies into enemies. Now, the Shadow Keepers no longer seek to mend Yggdrasil. They seek to end it and through this sorrowful action, cut away the gods' meddling with mortalkind's lives.
