The basics of punctuation in English
I've been working as an English language teacher and with English language teachers for over two decades, and it has always been very clear to me that punctuation is a badly neglected area in our business. Course books don't focus on it; syllabuses often don't include it; and we keep on hoping our students (and teachers themselves) will somehow pick up the rules of punctuation from their reading or through some sort of 'osmosis'. Well, that doesn't usually work, I'm afraid.
In this course, you'll learn a lot about punctuation in English --why it's important; how to study it; why learn it-- and will also learn how to use all punctuation marks correctly in your writing, such as apostrophes, commas, semicolons, colons, and others.
Join me on an important (and often fun!) journey through what Lynn Truss --in her brilliant 'Eats, Shoots, and Leaves'-- calls "the stitching of language": punctuation! Without it, she says, "language comes apart".
