The Grief Guide — A Psychoeducational Guide for Grief (loss, pets, breakups & more)
The Grief Guide
A psychoeducational companion for grief, grounded in scientific evidence
Grief rarely comes with instructions. Whether you've lost someone you love, a pet who felt like family, a relationship, a friendship, or a version of the life you expected, it's easy to feel like you're supposed to already know how to move through it.
The Grief Guide doesn't offer quick fixes or promises to "cure" your grief, because no such thing exists. What it offers is something more honest: clear, compassionate, evidence-based information about what grief actually is, what current research says (and doesn't say) about each type of loss, and a set of gentle, optional tools you can turn to at your own pace.
What's inside:
Core modules covering the fundamentals of grief, a toolbox of coping strategies organized by what you might need in the moment, guidance on when grief overlaps with alcohol or substance use, the factors that shape how grief unfolds, and a resource directory for further support.
Six chapters, one for each kind of loss: the death of a loved one, the death of a pet, a breakup, the loss of a friendship, life transitions (like retirement, moving, or emigrating), and unresolved or ambiguous loss (when there's no clear closure).
Every claim is backed by a cited, peer-reviewed source, clearly labeled with its actual strength of evidence, so you always know what's well-established and what's still emerging.
Who this is for: anyone currently grieving who wants to better understand their own experience, and anyone who wants tools to sit alongside that understanding, without being told there's a fixed timeline or a "right" way to feel.
This guide was developed under the guidance of a licensed psychology professional. It is psychoeducational material, not a treatment: it's designed to complement, not replace, professional support when that's needed.
