The magazine “The Initiation” was launched in 1888 by Papus and a group of occultists of the most influential at that time. In its numbers, it brings us a very rich content that exposes part of the work developed by Dr. Gérard d'Encausse (Papus) and his collaborators, focusing on the main hidden themes of that early 19th century, such as magnetism, hypnotism, spiritism, magic, esotericism and other topics related to the occult sciences in general.

Finally, everything that makes up the body of the Ancient Tradition always present in all peoples and all cultures. An inheritance of the First and Inseparable Religion of Man which he brings within his being as the Unknown Philosopher teaches us through his doctrine known as “Martinism”.

Although different in some points from that Tradition taught by Saint-Martin, Papus' Martinism brings us the same spirit, but in a new guise. This reading is of great importance for all Martinists and sympathizers of the spiritual current developed by Papus from the teachings of the Unknown Philosopher.
