THE SEVEN CHURCHES OF THE APOCALYPSE | History, Archaeology, and the Current Scenario of Cities in Asia Minor.
The Enigma of Asia Minor
The seven letters contained in chapters 2 and 3 of the book of Revelation
were not sent to fictional locations or floating metaphors in theological
space. They traveled along real Roman roads, paved with beaten stone,
connecting seven bustling urban centers in the Roman province of Asia
(modern-day Western Türkiye).
The biblical author, John, exiled on the Island of Patmos, structured the
sending of the letters following a perfectly logical geographical order of a
postal circuit of the time: going up the coast of the Aegean Sea, making
the curve through the mountainous interior and going back south in a
route that formed an almost perfect circle.
This guide serves as a historical and visual compass. We will excavate the
soil of these ancient cities, analyze what was written for each community
of believers, and examine the current state of these impressive ruins that
have withstood the test of time and empires
